5 Tips for Saving on Black Friday

1. Do your research - review sales fliers and websites for hot deals. BlackFridayAds.com and ShopLocal.com are good online sites to review.

2. Create a game plan - choose a select few stores to visit and seek out locations that have multiple stores in one spot. Driving from destination to destination is no way to spend the day. Also be sure to prep your vehicle. Fill up your gas tank ahead of time and clean out your trunk.

3. Shop early - go early and get done early. Oftentimes the best deals are gone by 10am.

4. Bring a friend - store lines are more manageable with a buddy nearby. One person can stand in line while the other snatches up the goodies.

5. Wait for cyber Monday - many online retailers now offer free shipping, free gifts, rebates, and markdowns on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Save oodles of time by shopping online instead!

Ohio Credit Union Food Drive

Members and staff of OHCFCU donated 96 lbs of food to the Dublin Food Pantry this October during Ohio's Credit Union Food Drive.

The Dublin Area Emergency Assistance Program began in the 1980's as a ministry of the Dublin Community Church-United Church of Christ. Now known simply as "The Dublin Food Pantry", the Pantry is supported by a network of Dublin area churches, schools, community organizations and individuals. As of 2009, the Pantry serves an average of 250 families per month, primarily from the Dublin School District. For more information visit http://www.dublinfoodpantry.com.

2010 Scholarship Program Coming Soon!

If your child will be a college freshman during the 2010-2011 academic year, he or she may be eligible to win a $1,500 or $500 scholarship from the credit union or a $1,000 scholarship from the Central Ohio Chapter of Credit Unions!

Scholarships are awarded based on academic history as well as extracurricular, community and philanthropic activities and an essay. Applications will be available on our website beginning the first week in December.

Please contact Jaime Crooks at (614) 737-6030 ext. 136 or jcrooks@ohcfcu.com for more information.

Bet You Can Save Challenge Comes to an End

The Bet You Can Save Challenge has come to an end, with The Maynard Family winning the $10,000 grand prize. Our credit union family, Ben & Christy Hoar, made great strides to their financial goals. We congratulate them on a job well done and wish them well as they continue to strive toward their goals. View more about each family at http://www.betyoucansave.com.

OhioHealth Benefit Fairs are a Success

October kept us busy with the OhioHealth Benefit Fairs. We love getting the chance to say hello to our current members and to meet new ones! Thanks to everyone for stopping by our table to say hello and pick up some goodies. We heard lots of positive feedback from our members. Things like "We love you guys!" and "I am so glad I switched to a credit union!" We hope OHCFCU is doing good things to make your financial experience a positive one. Feel free to pass on suggestions or other comments to us. Email Jaime Crooks at jcrooks@ohcfcu.com.

Stock the Staples

Make a list of common household items (toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, etc.) Research prices at local stores and when you find a good deal, stock up on that item. You'll save money and never have to run to the store for that "have to have" item!
