Current Identity Theft Scams

Fraudulent American Express Email March 2012

An email is circulating posing as American Express trying to verify recent transactions on a consumer's American Express card. It asks the recipient to verify attempted charges through their secure link. American Express ALWAYS includes the last 5 digits of the cardholder's card number. These fraudulent email neglect to include that information. If you are the recipient of one of these emails, please DO NOT click on any links within the email.

Fraudulent Email from FBI Circulating March 2012

A fraudulent email is circulating claiming to be from the FBI notifying individuals that they are suspected of money-laudering related to terrorist activities. It states that a fine must be payed via Western Union.

Fraudulent IRA Tax Payment Email Circulating October 2011

Please be cautious of a fraudulent email appearing to be from the IRS. The email states that the recipient has had a rejected tax payment initiated by his/her checking account. The email instructs the recipient to click on a link appearing to be a tax report document with further information. Please DO NOT click on the link in the email and immediately contact your credit union by phone at 1-866-254-4791 with further questions.

NSF ACH Scam September 2011

Please be cautious of a current phishing scam notifier consumers that they supposedly have NSF ACH transactions on their accounts. The notification instructs individuals to a visit a website link to enter information. Your credit union will NEVER send you an email notification requesting you to enter personal information by visiting a website link. Please DO NOT respond to a request like this via the Web and immediately contact your credit union by phone at 1-866-254-4791 with further questions.

Electronic Fraud Scam - BEWARE! June 2011

Currently, consumers are being targeted with a scam involving debit cards. Individuals are receiving automated phone calls stating that their debit card has been compromised - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND! The call will ask you to press 1 to re-activate your card. If you press 1, it will ask you to input your card number. THIS IS A SCAM. If you received one of these calls and input your card number, PLEASE CALL 1-800-754-4128 to block your card from further transactions.
